A 12-744 Mariner 13 transistor radio is a vintage radio known for its durability and portable design. Here are some pros and cons to help you decide if buying one is the right choice for you:

Pros:

1. Durability: Transistor radios are known for their sturdiness and ability to withstand rough handling. The Mariner 13 model is designed to be waterproof, making it a great choice for outdoor activities or use in humid environments.

2. Portability: Transistor radios are small and lightweight, making them easy to carry around. The Mariner 13 model is particularly compact, making it a popular choice for camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

3. Vintage appeal: The Mariner 13 transistor radio has a classic, retro design that appeals to many people. It can be a conversation starter or a decorative piece in a room.

4. Battery-operated: Transistor radios do not require a power outlet, making them a great choice for areas without electricity or during power outages.

5. FM and AM reception: The Mariner 13 radio can receive both AM and FM radio stations, giving you a wide range of listening options.

Cons:

1. Limited features: Compared to modern radios, transistor radios have limited features. For example, they do not have digital displays or preset buttons.

2. Sound quality: Transistor radios do not have the same sound quality as modern radios. The audio may be muffled or distorted, especially at higher volumes.

3. Limited range: Transistor radios have a limited range compared to modern radios. The signal may weaken or be blocked by buildings or other obstacles.

4. Size of the speaker: The speaker size of a transistor radio is smaller compared to modern radios, resulting in a lower volume output.

5. Repairability: Transistor radios can be difficult to repair, especially if the parts are no longer available.

In conclusion, the Mariner 13 transistor radio is a great choice for those who value durability, portability, and vintage appeal. However, it may not be suitable for those who require modern features, high sound quality, or a long reception range. If you are looking for a reliable and portable radio for outdoor activities or as a decorative piece, then the Mariner 13 transistor radio is a good investment. If you require modern features or high sound quality, then you may want to consider a modern radio instead.

Details:

It is in very nice condition cosmetically. The other 2 bands seem to function. There is some smudge anther bottom see photo. The band switch is abut scratchy when turned and so the off-on volume control.

This Realistic 12-744 has 3 bands, 88 to 108 MHz FM Band, MW medium wave 540 1600 KHz AM Broadcast and MB Marine Band and Shortwave 1.5 4.5. There are two jacks on the left side panel, one for earphone and external AC adapter not included. There is no sign of battery leakage damage. The 6 section telescoping antenna is in good shape.

I would guess it being from the 1960s since its marked Inc and KC instead of MHz KHz. The FM band does not operate.
