Upon first glance, the 8G005YT Transoceanic radiates an aura of vintage charm with its classic wooden cabinet, finished in a rich, mahogany hue. The wood grain is intricately detailed, giving the radio a unique character that can only be found in handcrafted pieces. Also included is the optional 'wave booster' remote antenna and extension cable. A charger would have to be rigged up in order able use those. This radio can be operated from batteries or ac. In addition, he built a set of batteries for it out ni-cads, and housed them an original EverReady Nelda-400 battery box such that from external appearances, is running on type.

The operator log instruction manual located at bottom of unit, is in good shape. The batteries are of rechargeable type, but no charger is included. You plug the ac cord into a socket located at top of chassis in order to use radio battery mode.

This particular model of trans-oceanic the 8G005YT was produced between 1946 to vintage Zenith transoceanic vacuum tube radio line radios premier for many decades. Currently the batteries still have some charge and so I was able to verify radio works off ac or dc equally well. This option allows setting the antenna in a separate location than radio for better reception. It uses the 'lacteal' type of vacuum tubes.

The previous owner replaced capacitors, power cord, etc. The serial number they were made by Zenith from 1942 to I tested it and seemed be working on all bands. This is a beautiful radio in good shape. The giant vertical antenna, which extends over 4', is intact, undamaged.

It has settings for 25, 19, and 31 meters. A newer mole connector was added to the battery interface, but original wiring is still in place and so if not desired then that can be removed will remain.
