The Marconi (Mar/Lin) AM-711 and AM-811 solid state antennas are popular choices for radio enthusiasts and those seeking to improve their AM radio reception. Below are some pros and cons of buying this antenna:
Pros:1. High sensitivity: These antennas are known for their high sensitivity, which means they can pick up weak AM radio signals that other antennas might miss.
2. Durability: The solid state design makes these antennas more durable than traditional tuned dipole antennas, as they have no moving parts that can wear out over time.
3. Compact size: The AM-711 and AM-811 antennas are relatively small, making them easy to install and transport.
4. Multidirectional: These antennas are multidirectional, which means they can pick up signals from multiple directions, making them a good choice for areas with varied radio signal strengths.
5. Easy to install: The antennas come with simple installation instructions and require no external power source, making them a convenient option for those who want to improve their AM radio reception without a lot of hassle.
Cons:1. Limited frequency range: These antennas are designed for AM radio frequencies only, so they won't improve reception for other types of radio, such as FM or shortwave.
2. Requires a good ground: To get the best possible reception, these antennas require a good ground connection. If the grounding is poor, the antenna's performance may be compromised.
3. May not work well in urban areas: These antennas may not perform as well in urban areas where there is a lot of radio interference. In such cases, a more directional antenna or a more powerful receiver may be necessary.
In conclusion, the Marconi (Mar/Lin) AM-711 and AM-811 solid state antennas offer several advantages for those seeking to improve their AM radio reception. Their high sensitivity, durability, compact size, multidirectional capabilities, and easy installation make them a popular choice among radio enthusiasts. However, their limited frequency range, requirement for a good ground, and potential performance issues in urban areas are important considerations.
If you're primarily interested in improving AM radio reception, these antennas are definitely worth considering. However, if you need to cover a wider range of radio frequencies or are located in an urban area with a lot of radio interference, you may want to explore other antenna options. Ultimately, the decision to purchase an AM-711 or AM-811 antenna depends on your specific radio reception needs and circumstances.
The closest I could find was the 811 model. I have looked high and low cannot find the exact model of this unit. Otherwise, without opening the unit, I do not see a difference. The difference between the 811 and this model is that has Lines on speaker part vs I see online more of a grid pattern.
The clear vinyl has signs of wear due to age. From a smoke free home. There is NO antenna on this unit. This powers up but because of the lack antenna, you can't tune in that well.
