The motor is spinning as can be seen in tape opening, so belt should good.

Overall, in my opinion, this boomboxes are unique, collectible, and hard to find items. No static noise when operating any controls. Has power with no case vibrations.

This unit was not serviced. Built in cast iron speaker housings are isolating sound very well. F series Sony model's were are the ultra premium line of boomboxes. Aluminum trim on the front is solid and attached, without any scratches or dents.

With 30hz-14,000hz frequency response on normal tape - it had no boombox rivals at the time, and could be compared to best stand-along decks. It takes me anywhere from 40min to over an 1 hour pack each boombox, as I have measure and machine cut cardboard corners, then wrap it, surround with air bags or something similar, make a custom box that fits perfectly, so the boombox does not move inside. No so nice:weight.

Antenna is original, straight, with no corrosion. Tape door is clear, and in great shape. Search meta cafe for Sony CFS-F40 - a video of this particular units operation. Technology packed in their early model's amaze collectors and fans even today.

Antenna housing is in good shape. Boombox collection and is sold as. Now before I begin to describe this particular unit, a few words needs be said about the manufacturer.

Couple small cracks in the corners which are not surprising given weight of this beast. Handle is in great shape. It is a very impressive boombox in many ways: weight size ratio, design, build quality, and sound quality. Overall - a very nice looking and great sounding boombox, that can certainly entertain many, just by simply asking them to try lift it bring over you, Lola.

4kg without batteries. Back panel show normal wear. Unlike other manufacturers, Sony had put a great emphasis on the tape case speaker design technology, and is undoubtedly succeeded in number of venues. Combination of analog bus with digital one.

Battery compartment is in great shape, with no foam. Paired with feather touch logic controlled tape mechanism, 2 analog bus one digital, smart hide-away antenna, this was suppose to awe the audience its small dimensions and powerful sound produced by 4 woofers mounted on top of another, handling a full audio range at ease. Tape controls buttons and lettering are in great shape. All lights are in working condition.

Sony plastic badge on the front is like new. This is due to the cast iron speaker enclosures that completely dump any possible vibration would otherwise be created by high output speakers. Motor can be seen spinning.

It does have a couple of discoloration spots on what appears to be some sort lacquer that was applied the trim and now had deteriorated. This Sony features 4 drivers for a full range of high power output. It may not look pretty, but does the job of preserving as much possible.

Overall, this is a powerful, quality built boombox, that can be used with your modern phone, streaming music and creating very enjoyable experience. A very interestingly looking unit, that also sounds great. Will not disengage. Soft touch feather tape controls - offer a popular and stable operation when works line in allows connection of Bluetooth devices to stream audio from your phone.

Note says it was operational, but obviously not now. All lettering on the metal trim under buttons and switches, grills, plastic, is preserved. It was sold for a whopping y99,8 an equivalent of 451 in 1981, not small change back then.

Cfs-f40 was manufactured in japan only. Other than that, it does not have major exterior issues, and shows just a very light wear. All buttons and knobs are original in good shape.

This is not an easy carry on boombox, unless you are heavily into fitness. 4kg it featured cast iron speaker casings, isolated enclosures, designed to minimize, if not eliminate any sound distortions on high volume. Most of their early model's were one the expensive on market, and this is no exception.

The radio is 75-90 mistype stuck in play and not operational. Tape as mentioned, is stuck in play, with pinch roller not fully engaged. Kind of a tourist attraction its own. A definite must in any collection, that surely will always attract looks and questions.

Sony has produced a number of quality boomboxes at the time, and was one leading technological forces on that market. That along is what makes those boomboxes highly desirable in any collection, especially when everything works. Metal speaker grills are straight, with no dents or scratches, in great shape.

Sound quality produced by the radio and line in functions was very good, even on high volume. Rec and mute - not tested external mics speakers tested phono tested line out tested ac 110v works fined 12v, batteries tested28w impression: this boombox is very heavy, weighs 13. I use 6-8 custom cut u-line cardboard corners, along with bubble wrap, air bags and various tapes to package it, so it makes you in one piece. On average, the shipping cost to Europe is depending weight and destination.
