Review ZENITH Trans oceanic Professionally Restored Filt Pak
The radio plays robustly on all bands with great sensitivity, lots of volume, and beautiful tone using either ac or battery pack. A full if RF alignment to factory specifications assures peak sensitivity and accurate dial readout. Battery pack is not included.
Zenith offered the G500 only for 1950 model year as a transitional between 40s technology lacteal tubes and more modern miniature. Nice Zenith G500 1950, chassis 5g40, five tube portable shortwave receiver, serial number the tubes were tested and verified strong followed by a complete re-cap. The original red rubber suction cups and ribbon cable for wave magnet are in place telescopic antenna is straight, extends fully, latches down pops up as it should. The clear dial cover is a new reproduction.
A filt-r-pak unit was installed to rebuild the power supply by replacing all five filter capacitors, rectifier, and resistor. In that single year of production G500 became a hit but was nevertheless replaced by the h500 following.
This is a beautiful radio on display and great to listen with its magnificent tone. All switches and controls have been cleaned lubricated a complete new set of dial cords ac cord were installed.
The cabinet was cleaned and re-dyed for deep, even color, plastic trim polished, brass fixtures were polished clear-coated.
